App not showing in App Store search, even for its name

Your app is live, the link works, and search for its own name returns other apps. What to check, what to send Apple, and what installs cannot fix.

Your app passed review, the store link opens, and a search for its exact name shows other apps. Developers on Apple's forums have been reporting this since at least February 2026, with new reports in September. This post separates the causes you can check yourself from the ones only Apple can fix, and says where installs help and where they do not.

First, rule out the ordinary causes

The first day. Apple's help says that after a manual release, a version may take up to 24 hours to appear on the App Store. Apple gives no separate time for search, so give it at least that long before you start digging.

The country. Search results belong to a storefront. If availability in App Store Connect leaves out the country you are searching from, the app will not show there. Check availability first, then open the direct link from that country's store.

The query. Search the exact name, then the name plus one word from your subtitle, then your developer name. In one of the forum cases below, a search for the developer name returned the app while the exact name did not. That result alone tells you the app is live in search, and the problem is limited to its name.

The store corrects your name into another word

If the name is close to a common word, App Store search can treat it as a typo and correct it. A developer on Apple's forums describes an app called Coriyo whose name search turned into "correo", so people who knew the app by name could not find it.

Two things help here, and neither is a campaign:

  • A second word in the query. In that thread, searching Coriyo app brought the app back. A reply there also points to the small link under corrected results that searches the original spelling.
  • A report to Apple. The correction itself is store behavior. Send the query, the country, and a screen recording.

If you are still choosing a name, search it in the store before you commit, the same way a user would.

The app is missing for its exact name, for weeks

This case has no checklist answer, and the forum threads show why. From two of them:

  • In one thread, seven developers describe apps missing from search for their exact names while direct links worked, some for more than a month. The first replies from support quoted there call the behavior expected.
  • The original poster's app disappeared right after a switch from paid to freemium. About nine months later the app was searchable again, and the poster wrote they had been told the switch set an internal flag on Apple's side that was never cleared.
  • One of the other developers opened a thread of their own. Their new app stayed missing from US search for its exact name, while a search for the developer name found it. The case went through three support advisors and reached engineering after about four weeks, with no fix reported.

Only one of these cases ends with a cause, and it reached the developer privately rather than as a public statement from Apple. What they do show is the evidence support asks for:

  1. Open a case through App Store Connect and give the exact query, the country, the date it started, and the direct link that works.
  2. Attach a screen recording of the search on a device in that country. In the second thread the advisor asked for it three times.
  3. File a report in Feedback Assistant as well. The developer in the second thread said they would too, so the problem reaches Apple through a second channel.
  4. Write down every change you made to the listing or the pricing model before the app disappeared. In the first thread, the switch to freemium turned out to be the cause, and the poster advises naming such a change in the very first message to support.

What installs can and cannot fix

Missing for its own name: installs are not the fix. If the store does not return your app for its exact name, it is not a ranking problem that more activity solves. Spending on installs while the case is open only makes it harder to tell what brought the app back.

Missing for a general term your listing matches: this is where installs help. A freshly published app has no traffic history, and stores have little reason to surface it for anything. If the term is in your title, subtitle, or keyword field and the store still returns other apps, installs without a keyword build the activity the store needs before it shows you.

Keyword campaigns come after, once the app appears for the term. The difference between the two is in our post on keyword installs and direct installs.

Where Rankforge fits

  • Missing for its own name: the tracker, as evidence. We cannot fix this case, and no install campaign can. What the free tracker gives you is a dated history: add the app's name in each country you sell in, and the chart shows the day the app dropped out and the day it came back. That history is the evidence Apple support asks for.
  • Missing for a general term: Get indexed, then keywords. Once the term is in your title, subtitle, or keyword field, installs without a keyword build the activity the store needs. When the app appears for the term, keyword campaigns can move it up.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take for a new app to appear in App Store search?
Apple says a manually released version may take up to 24 hours to appear on the App Store. Apple does not publish a separate time for search. If the app is still missing for its own name several days after release, treat it as a problem to report.
Why does the App Store change my app's name when people search for it?
App Store search can correct a query it reads as a misspelling. Developers on Apple's forums report names close to a common word being replaced with that word, so the app does not show up. In one thread, searching the name plus the word app brought the app back.
Can installs fix an app that does not appear for its own name?
No. When the store does not return an app for its exact name, the cause is on the store's side, and Apple support is the route. Installs without a keyword help a different case, when the app is missing for a general term its listing matches.
What should I send Apple support?
The exact query, the country, the date the problem started, a screen recording of the search, and the direct link that still works. One developer on the forums reports being asked for the same recording three times, so keep it in one place.
